A Medicinal Plants Primer It brings together bilingual records (Portuguese and Tentehar) of 65 plant species and 11 animal species used for medicinal purposes, including descriptions, uses, and locations, as well as traditional recipes. Featuring photographs and illustrations by Guajajara artists, the booklet preserves and values ancestral knowledge, promotes bilingual education, and encourages intergenerational transmission. Its creation mobilized elders, leaders, and youth from the villages, reaffirming the value of traditional medicine as a cultural heritage and source of well-being.
It is the result of collaborative work by the Guajajara people, with technical support within the scope of the Basic Environmental Plan, Indigenous Component Awá and Guajajara, which, in turn, is part of the Basic Environmental Plan, Indigenous Component of the environmental licensing of the Carajás Railway Expansion project, by Vale SA, together with FUNAI and Ibama, with the Institute of Society, Population and Nature (ISPN) as the implementing partner.
