O Guide to Access to Technical and University Education for the Guajajara People of the Caru and Rio Pindaré Indigenous Lands It provides information on affirmative action, access to and retention in higher education, the Brazilian education system, and specific courses for indigenous people.
The Guide was developed through fieldwork to identify the needs of this group and a survey of affirmative action programs for indigenous peoples in various public higher education institutions across the country.
In addition to compiling information specifically for the Guajajara people, this material aims to raise awareness among public higher education institutions in Maranhão regarding the expectations of the Guajajara and to inspire them with the experiences of other institutions that have been engaged in implementing affirmative action programs for indigenous people for a longer period. In this sense, the Guide is also the result of a dialogue established with the State University of Maranhão (UEMA), the Federal Institute of Maranhão (IFMA), and the Federal University of Maranhão (UFMA).
Thus, the Access Guide aims to contribute to increasing access to these policies, not only for the Guajajara people of the Rio Pindaré and Caru Indigenous Lands, but also for other indigenous peoples in Maranhão and throughout Brazil.
