The new ISPN booklet has just been released: “Small Eco-social Projects of Babaçu Coconut Breakers: reflections and lessons learned”.

Talking about the women who break babaçu coconuts and their livelihoods involves showing a complex reality, full of difficulties, but also with much poetry, struggles, and achievements.

Throughout the history of PPP-ECOS, approximately 40 projects involving babaçu nut breakers have been supported. In monitoring the execution of these projects, the technicians working at ISPN engage in dialogue and learn a great deal from the communities about the babaçu groves, the babaçu nut breakers and their organizations, the main challenges they face, and the potential of their actions at the economic, social, political, and environmental levels.

Thus, based on the experience of ISPN and its partners in supporting eco-social projects aimed at overcoming obstacles encountered in the production, processing, and marketing of babassu, we sought to gather and organize our perceptions and learnings. This rich learning experience is the main source of inspiration for this publication.
