Support for Ecosocial Projects in the Cerrado and Caatinga

Validity Period: 2021-2026

Support for community projects in the Cerrado and Caatinga regions that promote ecosystem conservation in dialogue with the strengthening of community organizations and their initiatives. The projects receive support through the Ecos Fund, with funding from Global Environment Facility (GEF), under the Small Grants Program (SGP).

During the execution of the project, 5 notices were launched:

  • 1 notice for selection of 4 strategic partners in the landscapes; 
  • 1 notice for the selection of 21 small-scale and consolidation projects in the Caatinga (Poti/PI and Pajeú/PE);
  • 1 notice for the selection of 22 small-scale and consolidation projects in the Cerrado (Jequitinhonha/MG and Western Bahia);
  • 1 call for selection of 9 small-scale and consolidation community network projects in the Cerrado and Caatinga; 
  • 1 call for selection of 13 initiatives led by women and/or young people in the Cerrado and Caatinga. 

During the 7th operational phase of the GEF, 1 strategic project was also contracted to organize a training course on the commercialization of sociobiodiversity products and access to public policies for organizations selected in the aforementioned notices that work with the theme, and 2 consolidation projects to: (a) systematize the results of the initiatives supported in the 7th operational phase and prepare case studies on restoration/recovery of degraded areas, production and processing, social technologies and women's protagonism; (b) develop a methodology for systematizing the results of projects supported by the Ecos Fund.

In total, 72 projects are being developed during the 7th operational phase of the GEF.
