This Privacy Policy regulates the use of personal data by ISPN.

To respect user privacy, we comply with Federal Law 13.709/2018 (General Data Protection Law – LGPD) and inform you that we collect and use personal data from people who interact with us. Here you will find all the information you need to understand how this processing takes place.

1. Who may be subject to the ISPN Privacy Policy?

ISPN operates through its institutional strategy for the Promotion of Eco-Social Productive Landscapes (PPP-ECOS), which promotes the democratization of access to financial resources and encourages social participation in spaces for the development, implementation and governance of public policies, with dialogues between different segments and networks of civil society and spheres of government. It also promotes the production and management of knowledge by valuing dialogues between local knowledge and practices, strengthening the relationship between researchers, academia and communities, and fostering social and productive inclusion.

The Institute promotes financing and support for projects (see more in PPP-ECOS and microprojects), for organizations selected through public notices and also provides scholarships for indigenous students and training for community leaders (see more in Bolsa PIPOU and Cerrativismo), in addition to mapping traditional communities (through the Tô no Mapa project). In this sense, you may be subject to this Policy if:

  • Be part of one of the organizations that receive funding from ISPN notices, be a grant recipient as an individual or be part of a community registered on Tô no Mapa;
  • Subscribe to one of our Newsletters (Capta and ISPN) and/or participate in one of our in-person or virtual meetings;
  • Be included in public databases, for purposes that will be addressed in this Policy (point 2);
  • Be part of an organization that participates in forums with ISPN.

2. What data is collected and for what purposes?

  • If you are an individual who has registered your organization in one of our PPP-ECOS Fund calls, supported by various funders:
    • When you register your organization in one of our calls for proposals, we collect, in addition to organizational data, the name of the legal representative, ID, CPF, email, telephone number, the board minutes with the names of all community members and the election date with the data of the legal representatives. For calls for proposals from some specific funders, we may also collect statements about land ownership and legal proceedings. We use this personal data only for the purpose of selecting organizations to be beneficiaries of one of our Calls for Proposals.
      • If your project is selected in the Call for Proposals, we will collect, in addition to the personal data mentioned, the signatures of contracts and attendance lists, photographs and videos of events in which you participate in the context of the Call for Proposals. For some events, it may be necessary to also collect your gender and age from the attendance list. This personal data is used for: (i) signing contracts and verifying information about legal representatives in the minutes; (ii) communications for managing the Call for Proposals, (iii) recording attendance at events, carrying out activities and for travel logistics and (iv) verifying indicators.
  • If you are an individual who has registered your community on I'm on the map:
    • When you register with the Tô no Mapa app, we collect the name, CPF, age, telephone number, state and city of the individual registering, as well as the name, signature in meeting minutes (which, in the case of people who have difficulty signing, can be replaced by a digital signature), and CPF of other members of the community. We use this information to maintain the traceability of registrants who registered each community, for possible telephone contact and to complete or confirm data, and to ensure that the community is aware of the registration made.
      • When you sign up to the Tô no Mapa app and choose to be part of the Traditional Territories Platform – PTT (Registration with PTT is not mandatory for registration with the Tô no Mapa application. It is merely a mechanism for the intersection of information, in which Tô no Mapa acts as an intermediary between the community and the MPF.), from the National Council of Traditional Peoples and Communities (CNPCT) in partnership with the Federal Public Ministry (MPF), the ISPN collects your name, address, email, and telephone number. You can optionally provide information about gender and race. This data is collected and shared with the MPF for the purpose of allowing the representative of a given community to register it in the PTT. By sending such information to the MPF, Tô no Mapa permanently deletes all personal data collected for this purpose.
  • If you are an individual who has applied for one of our scholarships in the Indigenous Program for Permanence and Opportunities at the University (PIPOU), is part of Cerrativismo training courses or has been selected to carry out microprojects:
    • When you apply for one of our scholarships, training programs, or support via a microproject notice, we collect your CPF, ID, address, name, gender, email, telephone number, and supporting documents for academic performance (school transcript/university statement), in the case of PIPOU scholarship holders. We use this personal data only for the purpose of selecting individuals to be beneficiaries of one of our scholarships, training programs, or microprojects.
      • When you are approved for one of our scholarships, training courses or microprojects, we collect, in addition to the personal data mentioned, your bank details, photos of bank cards and, in specific cases, fingerprints on the attendance list. We use this information to: (i) formalize agreements via contract with scholarship holders and/or those responsible for executing the microprojects; (ii) formalize bank details for checking and providing the scholarship and/or donation for executing the microprojects; (iii) pedagogical monitoring of scholarships and evaluation of academic performance; (iv) monitoring of microprojects with photos and information of participants and (v) issuing receipts for accountability.
      • To remain in the PIPOU program, the scholarship holder's university performance is monitored using data provided by the university.
  • If you are a member of an organization or community that is served by any of the ISPN projects:
    • If you are part of an organization or community served by ISPN, we may collect your name, region, city, community, telephone contacts, e-mails, ethnicity, photographs, videos and identification documents (CPF and RG) to obtain authorization for the use of your image. We use this information to (i) prepare and disseminate content for ISPN's projects and institutional policies; and (ii) to document and store authorizations for the use of your image. Occasionally, contact information may only be shared with journalists, so that they can contact you within the context of outreach initiatives and understanding the reality of the communities.
  • If you have subscribed to the ISPN or CAPTA initiative Newsletter (capta.org.br):
    • When you sign up for our Newsletters, we collect your name and email address solely for the purpose of disclosing the socio-environmental or fundraising information that makes up the Newsletters.
  • If you contact us through websites developed by ISPN, such as Cerratinga (cerratinga.org.br) or Agroindústria (agroindustria.org.br):
    • When you access our websites to contact us with a question or suggestion, we collect your name and email address solely for the purpose of responding to your requests.
  • If you participate in one of our virtual meetings:
    • When you participate in one of our virtual meetings, we may collect your name, email, phone number and image (with your authorization). We use this information to verify your participation and holding of the meeting, verify the activity and participation of members of organizations in the meeting and to publish the recording of the meeting on ISPN's social media platforms.
    • Participants may occasionally be asked for prior authorization for some meetings to be recorded and shared on digital platforms in order to record relevant topics and provide access to information to a greater number of people.
  • If you attend one of our in-person meetings:
    • When you attend one of our in-person meetings, we may collect your name, CPF, ID, gender, age, proof of vaccination for Covid-19 or negative Covid-19 test, if necessary. On some occasions, we may take photos of meeting participants for our own publicity. We use this information to ensure that participants are vaccinated and to comply with some legal obligations we have with funders and Funai, for example to provide some proof that there were people present at the meeting and who they were. Gender information is used to purchase airline tickets, book hotels and occasionally to disclose consolidated data in reports.
  • If your information is contained in public databases (Sicar, MapBiomas, SNCI, SIGEF, Funai, IBGE):
    • If your information is contained in public databases, we may collect your name and other data related to your property (such as registration and registration). We may use the information for journalistic purposes and to prepare reports on deforestation rates/environmental impact in certain regions.
  • If you represent an organization that participates in forums with ISPN:
    • In order to maintain communication with groups and networks in which ISPN is a participant and to coordinate projects between organizations, ISPN may collect the name, email and telephone number of representatives of institutions that participate in forums of which ISPN itself is a member. This information is used solely for the purpose of maintaining the communication channel between participants in these forums.

3. Is your data shared with third parties (i.e., people who are not part of our team)?

We may share some of your data with third parties in specific cases:

  • The Tô no Mapa app is a collective project organized by ISPN, the Amazon Environmental Research Institute (IPAM) and the Cerrado Network. With this, these organizations have access to the data provided by you to register your community in the system.
    • Furthermore, the information provided in the context of the Tô no Mapa application may, in specific cases and governed by Technical Cooperation Agreements, be shared with other partner Organizations that share the same objectives as Tô no Mapa.
    • In cases where the registrant chooses to register on the Traditional Territories Platform of the National Council of Traditional Peoples and Communities in partnership with the Federal Public Ministry (MPF), the information provided will be shared in encrypted form with the MPF and will then be deleted from the Tô no Mapa systems.
  • Call for Proposals supported by various funders:
    • When you register your organization in one of the calls, we may share the information provided with the members of the Technical Chambers and the PPP-ECOS National Steering Committee for the implementation of the project selection process.
    • When a project from your organization is selected in one of the calls for proposals, we may share information with partners, funders and regulatory bodies, in specific cases, such as to enable travel within the scope of the project.
  • PIPOU scholarships, Cerrativismo and microprojects:
    • When you are approved in one of the notices, we may share some of your information with ISPN's external accounting department and with tools used to sign documents digitally.
  • Press/Media Sharing:
    • If you are part of an organization or community that benefits from one of ISPN's projects, we may share your information (such as name, region, organization/community, telephone number) with journalists, with the purpose of giving visibility to the project in which your community/organization participates, allowing journalists to get in touch and share experiences. We may also share images of the community on our social networks, but before that we will collect authorization for the use of the image.
    • We may also share with the press information collected from public databases, which may include personal data, about regions that suffer some environmental impact and properties that are contained in these areas.
  • Information on vaccination/testing for Covid-19:
    • If you participated in one of our events where data related to vaccination and testing for Covid-19 was collected, we may share this information with Funai and the project's funders, in order to guarantee the safety of the community in the region where the event takes place and to comply with our legal obligations to such funders.

4. What security measures do we take to look after your personal data (what measures do we adopt for the storage of your personal data)?

We keep access to databases limited to members of the organization at all times and perform continuous backups. We use strong passwords and encryption to share certain information, in addition to having an Information Technology support team. In this way, we ensure that:

(i) user data is kept in a secure environment;
(ii) it is not possible for unauthorized third parties to access the databases; and
(iii) there will be control over all those who have access to the data stored by us.

However, it is important to highlight that security incidents related to personal data have become more common and the mechanisms for their implementation by malicious agents have become more complex. ISPN will do everything in its power to avoid this type of problem, especially with regard to sensitive data, and will therefore seek to ensure greater security for your information.

5. What are your rights as the holder of personal data?

You may, at any time, request that your information be deleted from our database, that your contact information be removed for private messaging purposes (emails, WhatsApp, etc.), and that you no longer receive content from us by any means. The full list of your rights is set out in the LGPD, especially in article 18, and we suggest that you familiarize yourself with them.

For any requests in this regard, you can contact us using the information provided in item 7.

It is worth noting that, for certain data processing – for example, the granting and management of scholarships – the deletion of information will not be possible unless the person wishes to completely end their relationship with the institute.

ISPN will use its best efforts to respond to your request effectively and quickly.

6. How do changes to the Privacy Policy occur?

We may modify, at any time, the rules established here, especially to adapt them to any changes that occur on the website or the provision of new features.

However, whenever we modify the Policy, we will notify you of any changes.
