Small gestures make a difference.

In partnership with the Health Center (Santa Inês – MA) of the Special Indigenous Health District (DSEI), we launched the campaign “No one is alone. We are all together in the fight against Coronavirus” with guidelines and tips on hygiene and compliance with social isolation in the villages of the Rio Pindaré and Caru Indigenous Lands, in the interior of Maranhão:

Safety protocol for food delivery in indigenous communities.

In a joint effort and partnership with Funai, DSEI, and indigenous leaders, ISPN developed a Safety Protocol with guidelines and necessary precautions for the ISPN technical team involved in food purchases and for the indigenous people (focal points) who will receive the supplies in their communities. The acquisition of these products is an initiative of the Cooperation and Commitment Agreement (TCC) with Vale SA. See the document below:

Coronacast

As another strategy for disseminating and providing access to quality and relevant information for the indigenous peoples of Maranhão in this context of the Covid-19 pandemic, we launched Coronacast in two episodes (“How to stay well during the Coronavirus pandemic?” and “How is the Coronavirus transmitted?”) in the Guajajara language. The translation was done by Professor Rosilene Guajajara from the Januária Village in the Rio Pindaré Indigenous Territory.

The Agroecology Network issues a political letter for this moment of pandemic.

ISPN and a group of other civil society organizations that are part of the Agroecology Network of Maranhão (RAMA) have released a political statement addressing current and urgent issues, as well as demands, for rural contexts during the Coronavirus pandemic. "This crisis affects rural communities, those in the countryside, forests, and waterways even more intensely, especially women, who are made vulnerable by the denial of rights and who historically lack access to adequate quality public services such as food supply, health, and sanitation, available to everyone," states an excerpt from the letter.
