Sustainable production, practiced by many traditional peoples and communities and family farmers, is a strong ally in overcoming crises such as the one brought on by the Coronavirus in Brazil. This type of production has the capacity to meet the food demands of the entire country, which can contribute to the healthy economic cycle: small producers generate income through the sale of their products, while society benefits from quality food on the table that prioritizes health, is free of pesticides, and is full of nutrients. In other words, encouraging and demanding policies from governments focused on this type of production is fundamental. Consuming from agroecological producer groups instead of going to large supermarkets also makes a difference. One of the solutions to overcome the current health crisis has lived among us for many generations and is right there in agroecological fruits, organic vegetables, and respect for nature: the way of life of family farmers, indigenous people, quilombola communities, artisanal fishermen, and so many other traditional peoples and communities.
