Initiatives operating in regions within the Biome are eligible to apply. Applications are open until January 24, 2020.

ISPN has launched the 28th call for proposals in its strategy to promote Productive Eco-social Landscapes (PPP-ECOS). This time, the theme refers to "Strengthening the Governance of Territories of Cerrado Communities," aimed at traditional peoples and communities. Non-profit associations, unions, or cooperatives operating in Cerrado regions and transition areas of the Biome are eligible to apply.

The total investment is US$100.000 (one hundred thousand dollars). Applicants may submit project proposals of up to US$25.000 (twenty-five thousand dollars), approximately R$100.000 (one hundred thousand reais), with a maximum duration of 12 months.

The funding for the projects comes from a Global Initiative to support Territories and Areas Conserved by Indigenous Peoples and Local and Traditional Communities (TICCA-GSI), launched by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). “This is a global and collective effort to enable and strengthen the territories where traditional peoples and communities live in the conservation of the Cerrado biome, through their ways of life and sustainable forms of using natural resources,” comments Lívia Moura, technical advisor at ISPN.

About PPP-ECOS

This is an institutional strategy of ISPN to promote Productive Eco-social Landscapes (PPP-ECOS) in Brazil. In other words, it works to enable environmental conservation and climate balance combined with the sustainable use of biodiversity by traditional peoples and communities and family farmers. Furthermore, it seeks to strengthen food security and income generation through dialogues and actions that ensure community leadership in line with addressing social inequalities. In PPP-ECOS, environmental issues are linked to social and economic agendas.

Independent PPP-ECOS Fund: Supporting projects is one of the main strategies of PPP-ECOS for promoting Productive Eco-social Landscapes. To enable this strategy, ISPN manages an independent fund that raises and allocates resources to projects by community organizations aligned with the PPP-ECOS proposal. By supporting a project, in addition to transferring resources, ISPN promotes integrated initiatives such as training, knowledge management, community outreach, and political advocacy.

Currently, the PPP-ECOS funding portfolio includes the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Amazon Fund/BNDES, and the C&A Institute.

About TICCA

There are places where people have a strong connection to their territories, promote social well-being, carry out environmental and sociocultural conservation, and care for resources for future generations. This is one perspective on Territories and Areas Conserved by Indigenous Peoples and Local and Traditional Communities (TICCAs), an instrument that supports the struggle for the rights and territories of traditional peoples and communities in different parts of the world. In Brazil, this debate gained momentum in 2018 with the 1st TICCA Brazil Meeting, held by Women in Action in the Pantanal (MUPAN). It has brought together various sectors, from traditional peoples and communities to representatives of public authorities, academia, and civil society organizations. Learn more, click here.
