Honey from native bees and the importance of artisanal production.

Do you know that nutrient-rich honey from native bees that isn't always readily available on store shelves? Well, democratizing access to the market for these and other artisanal products has been one of ISPN's work focuses. That's why, last Thursday (November 29th), the organization held the workshop "Sanitary Standards Applied to the Law on Artisanal Products for Food of Animal Origin" in Brasília. In it, family farmers, like the meliponiculturist Antonio Ilson, discussed strategies to engage with public authorities and streamline processes for regulating the sale of artisanal products. As Ilson tells us, the knowledge passed down through generations enriches this production, which is done in dialogue and respect for biodiversity. And these are the foods that deserve to be on our tables. "I am proud to be a meliponiculturist, since we know the importance of native bees not only for food production but also for the maintenance of native flora."
