During the II Meeting of Experiences and Learnings of PPP-ECOS, the video “Luíza, the resistance of the Cerrado” was launched. The animation addresses the importance of agro-extractive activities for the conservation of the biome and for the development of rural communities and traditional populations. Conceived by ISPN and produced by Forest Comunicação, the work was funded by GEF, PPP-ECOS, UNDP and the Amazon Fund.
The production aims to raise awareness in society about the contribution of indigenous peoples to the conservation of the Cerrado and to inform ordinary citizens how they can support agro-extractive initiatives. "This dynamic values the products and contributes to strengthening production chains based on the rich biodiversity of Brazilian biomes," explains ISPN's technical advisor, Renato Araújo.
The sustainable use of native biodiversity, combined with agroecological production, promotes environmental balance, quality of life in rural areas, and connectivity between Cerrado fragments. This is the story of Luiza and all the peoples who build the resilience of the biome.
Meeting of Experiences and Learnings from the PPP-ECOS
Practices that encourage the development and sustainable use of soil and water biodiversity are presented at the 2nd Meeting of Experiences and Learnings of the Small Ecossocial Projects Program (PPP-ECOS) in the Cerrado and Caatinga biomes. Organized by the Institute for Society, Population and Nature (ISPN), the meeting takes place on May 8th, 9th and 10th at the National Confederation of Workers in Commerce (CNTC) in Brasília-DF. Eighty-five organizations supported by PPP-ECOS are invited to exchange knowledge and coordinate actions for the continuity of the Program in the regions.
