Community-based organizations led by indigenous peoples, quilombola communities, traditional communities, and family farmers from the states of Maranhão, Tocantins, and Mato Grosso will be eligible to participate in the 49th Ecos Fund Call for Proposals.
The Institute for Society, Population and Nature (ISPN), responsible for the management of Ecos Fund, launches the call within the scope of the project Socio-biodiverse Amazonian Territories (TAIPAS), in partnership with the Forests, People, Climate (FPC), a strategic platform for international philanthropy.
“Indigenous peoples, quilombola communities, traditional communities, and family farmers are key players in the conservation and restoration of forests, as well as in building diverse solutions to the climate crisis. With this call for proposals, we seek to expand access to resources and strengthen the autonomy and territorial governance of these organizations, contributing to the protection of the Legal Amazon and its transition areas with the Cerrado,” highlights anthropologist and project manager at ISPN, Marília Nepomuceno.
With the aim of selecting and supporting initiatives developed by civil society organizations, community associations and cooperatives, the call for proposals includes four thematic areas focused on strengthening territorial rights, social participation, implementation of governance and territorial management instruments, and actions based on socio-biodiversity economies.
Among the priorities is strengthening political advocacy and social participation in governance and social control spaces related to school meals, supporting the work of organizations in bodies such as the Catrapovos Dialogue Table, Municipal and State Councils for School Meals and Food and Nutritional Security, as well as training and exchange programs on the subject.
The call for proposals will also support initiatives for territorial self-declaration and the strengthening of rights through the "Tô No Mapa" and "Plataforma de Territórios Tradicionais" platforms, contributing to the visibility and recognition of traditional peoples and communities.
Another thematic area focuses on strengthening territorial governance and management instruments, including the development and implementation of Territorial and Environmental Management Plans (PGTAs), Quilombola Territorial Management Plans (PGTAQs), Integrated Fire Management Plans (PMIFs), community consultation and consent protocols, community agreements, and other strategies for protecting and managing territories.
Finally, the call for proposals also seeks to support community initiatives linked to value chains and local production arrangements, encouraging activities that promote socio-biodiversity economies and contribute to income generation and the sustainable development of the territories.
The total funding allocated for this call for proposals is approximately R$ 3.300.000,00 (three million and three hundred thousand reais), to support small projects that will be distributed in the following support categories, according to the project's thematic area:
- Sub-category A: associated with projects in Thematic Line 1 – up to R$ 100.000,00 (one hundred thousand reais)
- Sub-category B: associated with projects from Thematic Lines 2, 3 and 4 – up to R$ 150.000,00 (one hundred and fifty thousand reais)
