The list of results for projects submitted to the call for proposals to support cultural initiatives of Indigenous peoples in the Brazilian Amazon has been released. To access, click here.
The call for proposals aims to contribute to the promotion of indigenous cultures by supporting projects in the Legal Amazon region focused on the promotion, appreciation, recovery, recording, dissemination, and transmission of indigenous cultures. The initiative is a partnership between ISPN, the Casa Socioambiental Fund, and Vale.
In total, 67 proposals were received, and of these, 16 were selected taking into account the scoring criteria and the resources available for this call for proposals. According to the Casa Socioambiental Fund, the organization responsible for implementing the call for proposals, selecting only 16 projects from so many relevant proposals received was no easy task, highlighting the importance of the theme of indigenous culture, which needs to be valued and supported.
According to ISPN's Executive Coordinator, Fábio Vaz, the nature of the submitted projects demonstrates that indigenous peoples consider their cultural expressions a fundamental element of their identities, essential for these cultures—so necessary in these times of climate challenges and attacks on human rights—to remain strong, vibrant, and dynamic. "I believe these projects will contribute significantly to strengthening and disseminating these cultures both within and outside indigenous territories, and all of this is fundamental to maintaining the Amazon as a biome and the well-being of its peoples," he emphasized.
